Donations to the Museum’s Collections
Make a gift, and make history. When you donate to museums, you help to preserve, protect, and display America’s historic treasures. Every gift is tax-deducible, with an impact that reaches millions of museum visitors each year and millions who access museums online.
The National Medal of Honor Museum of Military History collects objects relating directly to the Medal of Honor and Military History from the Revolutionary War to the present. In addition to items with ties to the medal, the museum also collects items relating to the armed service, the homefront during wartime as well as industry pertaining to the military. These all relate directly to the museum’s mission to educate present and future generations.
The museum does not accept objects not related or connected to the military, items too large for storage or display capabilities, infested objects, items in poor condition, potentially hazardous items including live ammunition or unexploded ordnance, and any other items that do not fulfill the museum's mission.
- If you have objects that you are interested in donating to the museum please contact the museum at mohmuseum@yahoo.com or call the Museum Archives office at 423-698-4511. Have information regarding the items, their age or the conflict they are related to, their connection, your contact information and if possible photographs of the object ready.
- Please do not send any objects until a member of the Museum’s staff contacts you. The Museum does not accept unsolicited artifacts through the mail.
- Artifacts are normally accepted as unrestricted gifts; however, if the owner wishes to place specific conditions upon their donation (i.e. display guarantees, terms of loan, etc.) this will require a specific agreement between the owner and the museum curator.
The Museum uses artifacts for exhibits organized and displayed in the Museum, for loans to other reputable institutions, as well as for research by students and historians. Objects not on exhibit or loan are placed in secure humidity, temperature, and light controlled storage areas.
